Pommie Place Names

Got a pack of Jelly Beans for Christmas.

The manufacturer is is Snugborough Rd, Dublin.

How about some other names:

Chipping Sodbury
Creech St Michael
East Grinstead
Bishops Stortford
Stanstead Mountfitchet
Slubberdike Wood
Draycott in the Moors

We just don’t get names like this in Australia.

I kinda like these English place names. They clearly convey charm, quirkiness, history, and character.

Perhaps the one that is really amusing in a “what exactly do they mean” kind of way is Kingsbog, in Ireland. Exactly what kind of bog????

I have friends who live in Scunthorpe and, years ago when Rebecca and John had their first baby, they excitedly emailed us all.

Trouble was, they used my work email and all I got was the formal message that said that an email had been banned because it contained forbidden words.

….so I had to ring the humourless, in-house Security officer and ask him to forward me the email after explaining that the four letter word was snugly inserted inside a real English town’s name!

My favourite is Staines…. Not least because Siemens has an R&D centre there..
