Damn this insomnia!

Yes, it really is 3:46 am while I’m writing this.

I’ve found over the years that when unable to sleep, sometimes it is better to get up and do something else for a while.

So the family snore away, and I”ll surf for 1/2 and hour. Quietly.

I’ve struggled with insomnia for years.. My IPod is my best friend at night.. gigs of podcasts, language lessons, etc.. Its almost fun to get a couple of completely quiet, peaceful hours in the wee hours of the morning..

Embrace the insomnia, thats my answer.

As a frequent sufferer myself I’m with you and Duncan. Embrace it – get out of bed and stay out until your eyes droop.

Can’t say I really had insomnia but remember often not being able to fall asleep for half an hour to an hour. You know what helped? The technique I found was quite simple. The idea is basically to stop thinking. In this state falling asleep happens very quickly. Because brain has nothing to do it shuts down. It takes for me now 5-10 minutes between going to bed and falling asleep after I started using this technique couple of years ago. It even worked when I had to spend one night in hospital. I first thought that foreign place, light and voices in the corridor would guarantee restless hours, but again fell asleep within minutes.

As to how to stop thinking, it is probably individual. I tried a few things but found that focusing on breathing works best. Just when I start, a few sporadic thoughts normally pop up, have to catch them before they get full attention, soon brain gives up trying and goes to sleep.

With this win came a new fail… I fall asleep before wife does and sometimes start snoring so she can’t get to sleep. Need to look now for another technique on how to stop snoring. :)
